This mannequin face and its skin tone, texture, eyelashes and makeup is part of a collection by Kevin Smith of the Langara College Design Formation Program. Kevin has used part of his collection to create, with the hard work of his students, an exhibition at the College called Muse.
I’ve been lax in getting this particular post done, so if you want to see the show, you only have until December 15. If you’re in the Vancouver area, you might want to put it on your list; it’s a very interesting peek into a bit of the history of mannequins.
I photographed many of the mannequins in Kevin’s extensive collection as part of the initial workup to the show and it was a very interesting shoot; none of the subjects were real people but the lighting and posing still had a portrait session feel. Not surprising, as some of them are sculpted from actual famous models of the 70’s and 80’s.
